Record year for cherries: 205 million dollars…
Türkiye is the world leader in the production of cherries and a strong player in exports. The 2023 cherry export target of 200 million dollars was exceeded. In the 2023 season, cherry exports reached 205 million dollars with an increase of 54 percent in the period until August 4.
According to data from the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB), Türkiye exported 75 thousand tonnes of cherries worth 205 million dollars in the 2023 season until August 4. Export amount in the same period last year were 57 thousand tonnes worth 133 million dollars.
Turkish cherries appreciated by 54 percent…
Hayrettin Uçak, Vice Chair of Aegean Exporters’ Associations and Chair of Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, said: “We are having a much more productive and abundant cherry season compared to last year. Last year we exported 57 thousand tonnes of cherries, this year we reached 75 thousand tonnes. In 2023, Turkish cherries showed an export spike of 32 percent in quantity and 54 percent in value. We reached 54 different export markets, we also managed to ramp up our exports to 34 countries and regions.”
We are the first in world production…
“We rank first in the world production of cherries. In addition to our traditional markets such as Germany and Russia, Turkish cherries are very popular in countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore and India. So far this season, we have exported 92 million dollars to our main markets Germany with a rise of 91 percent and 41 million dollars to Russia. Austria ranked third in our exports with 14 million dollars with a rise of 686 percent,” Uçak noted.
“Italy is also a market where we experienced an astronomical hike. Our exports to Italy soared to 7.7 million dollars and we exported 7.1 million dollars to Norway with an 11 percent acceleration. We also made a great progress in the United Kingdom and Spain,” Uçak added…
