Bingöl honey breaks export record!

Bingöl honey, which is recorded as Türkiye’s European Union (EU) registered honey, has broken an export record and found buyers in 9 countries after winning first prizes in domestic and international competitions in recent years. According to the latest agreement, Bingöl honey will take its place on the shelves of one thousand 700 markets in France.

After Bingöl honey produced in highlands with rich flora received geographical indication registration from the European Union (EU), Bingöl beekeepers started to smile. Approximately one thousand 800 tonnes of honey was harvested this year in the honey harvest, which is produced in 174 thousand hives by one thousand 300 beekeepers registered in the province. The honey analysed by Bingöl University Pilot University Coordination Centre Unit (PİKOM) is in great demand both in the domestic and foreign markets. Bingöl honey, which broke an export record after winning first prizes in competitions in recent years, finds buyers in 9 countries. The geographical sign registered Bingöl honey, which brings about 300 million liras to the regional economy this year, will take its place on the shelves of one thousand 700 markets in France.

‘Bingöl honey now sees the value it deserves’

Stating that Bingöl honey has now proven its quality and has found a place in the market, Çapakçur Honey Company Director Yusuf Beri said, “Bingöl honey has a name that has proven itself worldwide with its name, taste and aroma. The quality honey, which is produced between 1,600 and 1,800 tonnes every year, is subjected to analyses in the laboratories of Bingöl University and then filling and packaging processes are carried out in our facility.”

Pointing out that the number of exports, which was limited to one or two countries last year, has increased to 9-10 this year, company manager Sedanur Özbolat added, “As a result of the work we have done to enhance the quality of Bingöl honey and made intensive efforts together with the institutions, it has finally started to bear fruit.”
