Press release…
Participating in the Foodex Fair held in Japan between 5-8 March 2024, Bedri Girit, Head of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, said that the Japanese make sushi with Turkish tuna.
Noting that the historical ties between Türkiye and Japan, the wide and high quality product range of the Turkish food sector and the absence of visa application between the two countries provide opportunities for Türkiye to boost its exports to Japan, Bedri Girit, said, “Our fishery sector ranked second in food exports from Türkiye to Japan with a share of 53 million dollars in 2023.”
Sharing his belief that the Turkish aquaculture and animal products sector can increase export figures in Japan, Girit added, “We want our Japanese friends to make sushi, their favourite food, with Turkish tuna. We send poultry meat to Japan besides fish. Now, we are in talks about exporting powdered eggs and table eggs. We believe that we will achieve great increases in exports to Japan in 2024 with the commercial connections we will make at Foodex Japan Fair.”
