“Japanese market is very valuable to us”

Mehmet Ali Işık, Head of Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said that the Turkish food sector exported food products worth 26 billion dollars in the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

Işık also stated that they want to grow in markets such as Japan, China and India in addition to the European, Russian, Middle Eastern and US markets where they are strong in exports.

Sharing that Japan’s food imports soared by 17 percent in the last 5 years from 62 billion dollars to 73.6 billion dollars, Işık said, “Türkiye’s food exports to Japan in the same period soared by 72 percent from 164 million dollars to 282 million dollars.

“The Japanese market is very valuable for the Turkish food sector. Moreover, Japanese consumers have a high demand for organic products. We conducted TURQUALITY Project between 2015-2019 to ramp up Türkiye’s food exports to Japan. We have been participating in Foodex Japan Fair for 26 years. In the last 5 years, we have surpassed countries such as Peru, Ecuador, Ukraine and Ireland in exports to Japan. Foodex Japan Fair will offer great opportunities to Turkish food exporters to reach 1 billion dollars in food exports to Japan in the medium term,” Işık added.

“On the way to 1 billion dollars in food exports to Japan, we will endeavour to ensure that 100 million dollars of these exports consist of organic products,” Işık concluded…
