Davut Er: Japan is constantly growing in boxed olive oil exports

Press release…

Davut Er, Head of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB), who informed that the Turkish olive sector ramped up its exports to Japan by 57 percent from 18.5 million dollars to 29 million dollars in 2023, said that olive oil consumption in Japan has increased rapidly and that olive oil has the third place with an amount of 27 million 200 thousand dollars in food products exports from Türkiye to Japan.

Er emphasised that Türkiye has made great investments in the olive cultivation sector in the last 25 years and said, “Türkiye’s olive tree population has risen from 90 million to 200 million in the last 25 years. As the yield of these trees increases, our yield will increase to 650 thousand tonnes. Japan is a critical market for this yield to turn into added value. In the last 10 years, we observe that the olive oil culture in Japan has settled rapidly. By focusing on the Japanese market, whose olive oil consumption is expanding every year, we aim to boost our exports by growing our marketing activities.”

“Especially in recent years, Turkish olive oil brands continue to make a name for themselves by winning important awards in various competitions held around the world. The success of Turkish brands in prestigious competitions in Japan shows that this unique flavour also stands out with quality. These achievements are not only awards, but also badges that prove that Turkish olive oil has a world-class quality,” Er added.

Pointing out that it is a source of pride for them to bring together the quality olive oil obtained from the productive trees of the country with Japanese consumers, Er concluded, ” With the rise in our marketing activities, we will continue to bring Turkish olive oil to its rightful place in Japan by further increasing our exports to Japan.”
