Apricot yield in Mut is 200 thousand tonnes…

Apricot yield in Mersin’s Mut district, where 90 to 95 percent of Türkiye’s table apricots are produced, decreased compared to previous years and reached 200 thousand tonnes.

The geographically indicated table apricot of Mut, which has a microclimate feature, was harvested in the open field. Mut table apricot, which is unrivalled with its colour, smell and appearance, is exported to Russia, the Middle East, India and Europe, and is produced on 77 thousand 800 decares of land in the district, which has 712 thousand decares of agricultural land.

Stating that the table apricot produced in the district is registered with the name ‘Mut apricot’, Muharrem Yılmaz, Head of Mut Chamber of Agriculture, said, “Our apricots produced in our district are table apricots. It has a microclimate feature. The earliest harvest in our country is carried out in our region. The harvest starts on the 15th of April and ends in mid-June. Last year, we produced 350 thousand tonnes.”

“This year, production decreased and we received 200 thousand tonnes. 100 thousand tonnes of this was exported to European and Middle Eastern countries, especially Romania, Russia and Ukraine. The remaining 100 thousand tonnes were marketed to the domestic market,” he added…
