Türkiye’s exports of apples and apple juice, in which the country ranks third in the world with an annual production of approximately 5 million tonnes, soared by 27 percent to 321 million dollars in the January – August period.
It is harvest time for apples, the biggest companion of citrus products in the autumn season. While Türkiye is harvesting 5 million tonnes of apples, it is also successfully continuing its marketing activities for export.
Hayrettin Uçak, Head of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, who informed that they entered a good season in terms of yield and quality, said, “In the January-August period of 2024, country-wide apple juice exports rose by 33 percent to 181 million dollars, while country-wide fresh apple exports rose by 21 percent to 140 million dollars. Our total exports of apples and apple juice in the January – August period rose by 27 percent to 321 million dollars. India ranked first in the list of countries to which we exported the most apples with 53 million dollars. Iraq ranked second with 38 million dollars of apple exports, while we exported 18 million dollars of apples to Russia.”
Pointing out that the number of countries they exported apples was recorded as 70, Uçak noted, “In apple juice exports, the United States of America was the top country with a demand of 96 million dollars, while the second country importing the most apple juice from Türkiye was the Netherlands with 16 million dollars. Italy was on the third step of the summit with a demand of 7 million dollars. We have an export target of 500 million dollars at the end of 2024 and 550 million dollars in 2025 in apple and apple juice exports.”
How much is Turkey’s apple production?
The 2023 world apple production estimate is 78 million tonnes. The largest apple producers are China, USA, Türkiye, Poland, India and Iran. According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) records, the country has 60 million planted apple trees.
