Edremit Chamber of Commerce President Ahmet Çetin warned citizens that fake olive oils are sold very cheaply on some e-commerce sites while the new period olive harvest is approaching in Balıkesir’s Edremit district. Çetin stated that they continue their efforts to combat counterfeiting uninterruptedly.
Edremit Chamber of Commerce President Ahmet Çetin said that they have Edremit Olive Oil geographical sign belonging to our Edremit Chamber of Commerce.
“This geographical sign is also registered in the European Union. Of course, olive oil is a very valuable product. Recently, in terms of our citizens’ access to cheap olive oil, unfortunately, we have started to see oils that do not contain olive oil or mixed with adulteration, with olive oil essence, cost very cheaply or offered to the market very cheaply. Here, we have determined that the name Edremit Olive Oil is used. We sent notifications to the companies we detected, including national e-commerce sites and other companies in the market, by making notary determinations. We started our fight against forgery in Edremit Olive Oil geographically marked products. At the same time, we complained to the Ministry of Trade about these companies,” Çetin added.
CITIZENS SHOULD PREFER BRANDED PRODUCTS…
Pointing out that citizens should be very careful especially in sales made through e-commerce and social media, Çetin concluded, “Here, our legal unit has meticulously prepared all the work. We are trying to fulfil all our responsibilities for our citizens to consume real Edremit Olive Oil. Of course, this is not something that only our chamber can do, which we can always do. A total struggle is required and we continue to work in partnership with other institutions on this issue. We ask our citizens to pay attention to this issue, to prefer brands, products and geographical sign, if possible, to prefer geographical sign products.”
