“Agricultural production will be prioritised again in the new period”

In the second quarter of the year, when the Turkish economy maintained its stability with 4.8 per cent growth, Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Chairman of the Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Sector Board of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM), stated that food inflation remained high.

“The current production and export performance of businesses operating in the food sector shows that our sector continues to contribute to economic growth. However, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data, the fact that agriculture has shrunk for two consecutive periods and that overall growth has come mainly from other sectors, primarily construction and industry, highlights the need to increase agriculture’s share in the economy,” Tiryakioğlu said.

“Our past experiences give us hope that agricultural production will be prioritised again and that support for policies that will increase productivity will be increased. Despite rising financing costs and declining profitability, our food businesses continue to be competitive in international markets thanks to their flexible production capacities and strong export networks. When this resilience is reinforced by agricultural initiatives, we can see that food inflation-related problems are beginning to subside domestically, although this depends on various factors such as currency, energy, global prices and logistics,” he added…
