‘Sason honey,’ produced in the Sason district of Batman province, has been registered as a geographical indication by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
Following an application made by the Sason District Governor’s Office in 2023, a programme was organised at the Governor’s Office to mark the granting of the geographical indication to Sason honey.
At the programme, District Governor Furkan Başar presented the geographical indication registration certificate to Governor and Deputy Mayor Ekrem Canalp.
Canalp stated that Sason honey is not only one of the highest quality honeys in Türkiye but also in the world.
Canalp noted that there are various parameters that determine the quality of honey, emphasising that one of the most important of these is the proline value (one of the 20 amino acids that make up the structure of proteins).
Highlighting that this value reflects the diversity and richness of the flora in the region where the honey is produced, Canalp said, “Sason honey has a proline value between 1600 and 1700.”
