Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), announced that they had achieved exports worth 409.2 million dollars in the first quarter of the year.

Red lentils remain a key driver…
Chairman Veysel Memiş, stated that a balanced performance within the pulses group, stated that total exports reached 84.2 million dollars, adding, “Red lentils maintained their position as one of the group’s key drivers with 62.4 million dollars.
“We observed a significant 209 per cent increase in bean exports, amounting to 748,000 dollars, demonstrating that our product diversity is having a positive impact on exports. Whilst Iraq, Sudan and Djibouti are our main markets in this group, our rise from zero to 35,000 dollars in green lentil exports indicates that we possess serious potential in new products,” he said.

Sunflower seed volumes fell but value rose…
Highlighting a different dynamic within the oilseeds and fruits group, Chairman Veysel Memiş noted that exports in this group amounted to 58.2 million dollars. “Although there was a 46 per cent decline in volume for sunflower seeds, the 2 per cent increase in value indicates that our unit prices have risen. We achieved very strong increases of 52 per cent for peanuts and 1,423 per cent for linseed. In contrast, the 95 per cent drop in soy beans demonstrates that the import-dependent structure of this product is limiting export performance,” he concluded…
