Southeastern Anatolia’s exports of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products surged by 8.7 percent to 1.8 billion dollars in the first half of the year. During this period, exports reached nearly 2.2 million tonnes, an increase of 3.9 percent in volume, with 495,900 tonnes of pasta, 467,300 tonnes of wheat flour and 215,200 tonnes of sunflower oil exported. Of Türkiye’s 553 million dollar sunflower oil exports, 318.8 million dollars or 57.6 percent, were exported from the Southeast. The region’s share of Türkiye’s 428 million dollar pasta exports was 286.7 million dollars or 66.9 percent. Iraq, where exports declined by 4.2 percent to 518.5 million dollars over the six-month period, remained the region’s largest export market. Exports to Syria, which ranked second, surged by 36.8 percent to 173.7 million dollars.

‘Gaziantep’s cereal exports for the six-month period amounted to 1.5 billion dollars.’
Celal Kadooğlu, Chair of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that the sector continued to be the largest exporter in the Southeast during the first half of the year.
“The cereals sector, which accounts for over 30 percent of the Southeast’s total six-month exports of nearly 5.8 billion dollars, is attracting attention not only due to the increase in tonnage but also due to the rise in prices. Although revenues have soared, company profits have remained below previous years due to costs. However, the fact that operations have continued without interruption is a positive development in terms of preserving regional employment,” he said.
“The continuation of production activities in Gaziantep, especially as an industrial province, is very important for the economic balance in the region. Gaziantep’s cereals exports reached 1.5 billion dollars in the first half of the year, an increase of 6.6 percent. Over 80 percent of cereal exports in our region were realised from Gaziantep province,” he added…
