Vice President of Uludağ Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (UYMSİB) Professor Dr. Senih Yazgan said that in the January-May period of 2020, fresh fruit and vegetable exports experienced a 20 percent jump compared to the same period of the previous year. “It was one of our great achievements in this process that people gave priority to food during the pandemic period,” said Yazgan.
Emphasizing the importance of seasonal production in fresh fruits and vegetables, Yazgan noted, “The consumption of citrus fruits in Russia, which is one of our most important markets in the period until March, is very intense. A period in which the last stocks remaining from 2019 has been used. It may take September to re-engage afterwards. But cherries, on the contrary, sleep until May, so to say, makes a big jump in May and continues till August.”
Sharing the information about the most exported regions, Yazgan added, “We mainly export to Central Europe, like Germany and The Netherlands. Likewise, the UK and Russia are among our important markets.”
“We can see Turkish products in Russian markets. The countries that provided their supply from Spain and Italy as a result of the negative climate effects in certain countries directed their demands to us,” Yazgan concluded…
