200 HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS TO BE SURPASSED IN FRESH GRAPES!

Press release…

Harvest has started for the world-famous seedless Sultani grapes…

One of the leading agricultural export products of the Aegean region, Sultani seedless grapes, the first products harvested from the vineyards in Manisa’s Alaşehir district started their export journey.

“Sultaniye Grape Harvest Ceremony” was held in Manisa – Alaşehir, Türkiye’s grape warehouse, under the organisation of Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB).

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association organised a cutting ceremony for seedless Sultaniye grapes harvested in Alaşehir in the vineyard of producer İsmail Özer.

The ceremony was attended by Alaşehir District Governor Alper Faruk Güngör, Manisa Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Metin Öztürk, EYMSİB Chairperson Hayrettin Uçak, Alaşehir District Director of Agriculture and Forestry Musa Akkaynak, EYMSİB Vice Chair Cengiz Balık, Türkmen Türkmenoğlu, Chairperson of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) Fruit and Vegetable Products Sector Board, Member of the Board of Directors of EYMSİB, Hüseyin Vural Güleç, Sadık Demircan, Vildan Akgedik, Kenan Unat, Tolga Selim Kağan and local producers.

We rank 6th in the world in production!

“We are kicking off the season of Sultaniye variety table grapes, which is one of the most important agricultural export products not only of Manisa province but also of Türkiye and which is known worldwide for its taste, with great excitement. We produce nearly 2 million tonnes of table grapes annually and we rank 6th in the world in terms of production,” Hayrettin Uçak said.

“In this large production region covering Turgutlu, Salihli, Alaşehir, Sarıgöl districts and Dadallı Village, many fruits and vegetables, especially grapes, are grown. Many of our exporters also export intensively here, providing an important foreign currency contribution to our country. In 2022, 60 percent of the table grapes, which we ranked 10th in the world with 224 thousand tonnes of exports, are Sultaniye grapes. In 2022, we exported 176 million dollars of table grapes. In 2023, I believe that we will exceed the 200 million dollars threshold we reached in 2021. I also believe that we will export a total of 600 million dollars in fresh table grapes and dried grapes,” Uçak added.

Pointing out that grape is a difficult crop that is laboured for twelve months, Metin Öztürk, Manisa Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, noted, “Grapes have two legs, one is fresh and one is harvested as dried. A feature of raisins is that 85-90 percent of them go to world markets. Therefore, we provide an important foreign currency contribution, we produce many crops, but the income we get from grapes in such difficult markets is different. Because production has become more difficult with these climatic conditions in the world. Our product will find value in world markets.”
