In the January-August period of 2024, hazelnut exports from Türkiye reached 189 thousand 590 tonnes and 1 billion 545 million 669 thousand dollars of foreign currency inflow was provided in return. When these export realisations are compared with the same period of the previous year, it corresponds to an increase of 12 percent in quantity and 46 percent in value.
Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB) Hazelnut and Hazelnut Products Sector Committee Vice President Sebahattin Arslantürk stated that exports were made to 122 different countries from the country in the 8-month period and that the top 5 countries to which the most exports were made were Germany, Italy, Poland, France and the People’s Republic of China, respectively.
Arslantürk also gave information about hazelnut exports from Black Sea region’s Trabzon province; in the 8-month period of 2024, 59 thousand 121 tonnes of hazelnut exports made from Trabzon province, in return 508 million 40 thousand dollars of foreign currency inflow was provided and in the 12-month period of the 2023/2024 export season, 83 thousand 102 tonnes of exports worth 673 million 909 thousand dollars were realised, in addition 33 percent of the total hazelnut exports from Türkiye in 2024 were carried out from Trabzon province.
Arslantürk also emphasised the importance of the drying process of the collected hazelnuts and stated that the producers should be very careful not to dry the hazelnuts in a humid environment and not to keep the hazelnuts under rain.
Pointing out that producers should not put the crop on sale immediately for stable price formation and pay attention to market and price movements, Arslantürk added, “I wish that the new season would be productive for all stakeholders, especially our growers.”
