UN: HARMFUL EFFECT OF HUMANITY ON THE CLIMATE IS ‘REAL’

In the landmark study of scientists affiliated with the United Nations (UN), it was noted that the harmful effect of humanity on the climate is “real”.

According to the report, a significant temperature limit may be exceeded in about 15 years as a result of the continued emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The report also points out that sea levels could rise up to 2 metres by the end of this century.

But there is also new hope that significant restraints on greenhouse gas emissions can offset rising temperatures.

This important assessment by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is contained in a 42-page document known as the “Summary for Politicians.”

This report is the largest review of climate change science since 2013 and was released less than three months before the pivotal climate summit in Glasgow known as COP26. A series of reports are expected to be published in the coming months.

“Today’s IPCC Working Group 1 Report is a red alert for humanity,”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said:

“If we join forces now, we can prevent climate catastrophe. But as today’s report makes clear, we have no time to delay and no excuses. I trust government leaders and all stakeholders to ensure COP26 is a success.”

Antonio Guterres

The IPCC document emphatically states that “human influence is certain to warm the atmosphere, oceans and land.”
