Stating that the fresh fruit and vegetable sectors in Türkiye exported 3 billion 491 million dollars in 2023, Hayrettin Uçak, Chair of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, reported that citrus sector was represented in this export with 1 billion 112 million dollars and exceeded 1 billion dollars for the first time in its history.
“In the first half of 2024, our exports of citrus products soared by 12 percent to 504 million dollars. By the end of 2024, we aim to ramp up our exports of citrus products to 1 billion 250 million dollars,” Uçak said.
Pomegranate exports are 131 million dollars…
Hayrettin Uçak also shared that pomegranate cultivation has increased in recent years with the spike in its use in the industrial sector as well as table consumption and according to TURKSTAT data, Türkiye’s pomegranate production amount was 45 thousand tonnes in 1988 and reached 638 thousand tonnes in 2023 and that the country earned 131 million dollars in foreign currency from pomegranate exports in 2023.
Detailing the Aegean region pomegranate production, Uçak added, “Muğla province is the leader in pomegranate production as in Aegean Region citrus production with 64 thousand 353 tonnes of pomegranate production. Denizli; 51 thousand 206 tonnes, Aydın 9 thousand 851 tonnes and Izmir 9 thousand 625 tonnes of pomegranate production is expected. Most of the fruits were found to be suitable for export.”
“In 2024, we expect our pomegranate exports to reach 150 million dollars,” Uçak concluded…
