Türkiye earns 95 million dollars from dried tomatoes in the first half of the year…

Dried tomatoes, cultivated in the fertile soils of Anatolia and painstakingly sun-dried, flavored dishes in 93 countries between January and June.

Türkiye earned 95.085 million dollars in revenue from dried tomato exports in the first six months of the year, produced with intensive labour in the scorching heat.

Grown in the fertile plains of the Aegean and sun-dried, the tomatoes are then exported to various countries, primarily the US and Europe.

According to information compiled by an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent from Aegean Exporters’ Association data, Türkiye sold 31,589 tonnes of dried tomatoes to 93 countries between January and June.

The sector generated 95.085 million dollars in revenue from this.

During this period, the United States led the way in dried tomato exports with 22,671,000 dollars, followed by Italy with 14,491,000 dollars and the United Kingdom with 10,899,000 dollars.

Dried tomatoes are preferred in pasta, pizza, salads and hamburgers in Europe and the United States.

Vahap Olgun, Chairman of the Board of the Torbalı Chamber of Commerce, stated that the İzmir’s district of Torbalı Plain has turned a shade of red with the start of the season.

Olgun expressed his satisfaction with the interest in dried tomatoes with geographical indications and added, “After processing and drying fresh tomatoes, we achieve a tenfold added value. There’s been no interest in dried tomatoes in Türkiye, but in recent years, they’ve gradually started being used here as well, thanks to our geographical indication. But the world is crazy about Torbalı’s dried tomatoes. We export to nearly 100 countries, and demand is booming this year.”
