Press release…

In the last two months of the 2022/2023 hazelnut export season, which started on September 1, 2022, 56,763 tonnes of hazelnuts were exported from Türkiye corresponding to 314 million 953 thousand 824 dollars.

In annual exports, 239,934 tonnes of hazelnuts were exported in the 10-month period covering January-October, and 1 billion 325 million 828 thousand 762 dollars foreign currency inflow was provided in return.

In hazelnut exports made on an annual basis, there is a 6% decrease in quantity and 23% in value compared to the first 10 months of the previous year.

Mehmet Cirav

Mehmet Cirav, Chairman of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB) Hazelnut and Hazelnut Products Sector Committee, made evaluations on the subject and said that due to the energy crisis and recession, especially in European countries, manufacturing companies have cut their production, reduced their capacities and some companies have completely stopped their production due to cost increases.

Cirav also stated that this situation has been reflected to Türkiye’s hazelnut exports due to the fact that the manufacturers who use hazelnut as a raw material, as in all products, stopped their purchases, did not stock up and some of them reduced their orders.

Emphasizing that this situation will continue until the end of the year in European countries, which are the largest markets of the hazelnut industry, Cirav announced that the markets will begin to revive to a certain extent as of the first months of 2023.

“This situation will reflect positively on our exports as all countries control the increasing inflation and the problem of supply security in energy is eliminated,” Cirav added…
