Aydın Commodity Exchange Chairman Fevzi Çondur: “Opening Olive Groves to Mining Will Lead to Irreparable Losses!”

Aydın Commodity Exchange Chairman Fevzi Çondur made statements regarding the adoption by the Turkish Grand National Assembly of the Bill of Law Amending Certain Laws concerning energy and mining fields, which will open olive groves to mining. Çondur emphasized that this regulation will cause significant harm not only to nature but also to agricultural production areas, farmers, and the national economy.

Stating that this law, which has had a wide impact on the country’s agenda, is unacceptable at a time when agricultural production and food safety are becoming increasingly important, Çondur said, “Aydın province is one of Türkiye’s most important agricultural regions and holds a strategic position in olive and olive oil production.

Informing that Aydın province has approximately 40,000 producers registered with the Farmers’ Association (ÇKS), Çondur noted, “For us, olives are not just an agricultural product; they are also a symbol of our millennia-old culture, our land and our labour. It is our shared responsibility to pass on this unique value, inherited from our ancestors, to future generations.”

“As the Aydın Commodity Exchange, we once again strongly emphasize the need to protect olive groves, prevent agricultural lands from being opened to mining activities, and support sustainable agricultural policies.
