The Turkish fishery sector, which generates 2.3 billion dollars in foreign exchange for Türkiye annually, showcased Turkish fish at Future Fish Eurasia – the 12th International Seafood Export and Processing, Aquaculture and Fisheries Technologies Fair – in a bid to reach its target of 2.5 billion dollars.
Organised by Avrasya Fuarcılık (Eurasia Trade Fair) and hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Future Fish Eurasia took place from 24 to 26 September in Hall C at Fuar Izmir (Fair Izmir).
As one of Türkiye’s key international gatherings in the aquatic products sector, the fair showcases products and technologies across various areas of the industry, ranging from fish processing technologies and aquaculture equipment to cage systems, feed production technologies and fishing equipment. Norway and Libya are also represented at the fair with their national pavilions.
The fair, which saw the participation of 165 companies and brands from 26 countries at Fuar İzmir, brought together international representatives from the aquatic products, aquaculture and fisheries technology sectors in İzmir.
Sinan Kızıltan, Chairman of the Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Sector Council, stated that the Future Fish Eurasia Fair began 12 years ago as a small event and has now become the sector’s largest gathering point. “Aquatic products and animal products sector has reached a position where it accounts for 4.5 billion dollars in exports across the country, with 2.3 billion dollars of this coming from the fishery products sector,” he said.
Sharing that the aquaculture sector’s exports, which stood at 50 million dollars in 1999, have shown rapid growth, Kızıltan noted, “Whilst we were the sector with the lowest exports in the Aegean Region back then, we have now risen to become the second-largest exporting sector. We take great pride in this. It has not been an easy journey to reach this point. We have faced many challenges. Starting out on an export journey with wooden cages in small earthen ponds, we have now reached a position where we export technology and R&D abroad. Today, we have begun to guide investments in aquaculture for other countries, particularly the Turkic Republics, African nations and many other countries.”
“For this reason, we believe the future of this sector is very bright. Turkish salmon, in particular, has shown significant growth recently. This year, we will reach 650 million dollars in exports,” he added…
