TUNA FISH EXPORTS REACH TO 100 MILLION DOLLARS…

This year, 2 thousand 305 tons of tuna can be hunted in Turkey…

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli said that the bluefin tuna fishermen started to hunt by saying ‘Vira Bismillah’ and that this year 2 thousand 305 tons of tuna can be hunted in Turkey.

Minister Pakdemirli said that Turkish fishermen who will be tuna fishers in the international waters of the Mediterranean with the Turkish flag have completed all the necessary preparations so that they can successfully carry out this hunt. “I hope that our fishermen who will hunt will have a fruitful hunting.”

Hunting to continue up to 30 June…

Underlining that the amount of bluefin tuna fishing and quota is determined by ICCAT, an international regional fisheries management organization based in Spain, Minister Pakdemirli noted, “Bluefin tuna fishing started in the Mediterranean as of May 15 and will continue until June 30, 2020”.

Quota taken to 2305 from 1000 tons…

Stating that Turkey’s quota has increased due to the superior effort and success shown on international platforms as ministry, Minister Pakdemirli explained, “As a result of these efforts, our quota has been increased from 1000 tons to 2.305 tons. In this quota limits, tuna will be hunted by 27 fishing vessels that have the right to hunt by fulfilling the conditions set by our Ministry.”

Employment to be provided for approximatetely 2 000 people…

Pointing out that the tuna caught as a result of hunting will be transported by cages, 50 fishing ships will also be involved in hunting activities, Pakdemirli added, “2 thousand people will be employed during these hunting activities.”

100 million dollars of exports obtained by tuna fish…

“Almost all of bluefin tuna fish that were hunted are exported to the U.S. and the Far East countries, especially to Japan and every year 100 million dollars of export income is provided to our country from tuna fishing,” Pakdemirli concluded…
