«We have 1001 reasons to invest in sorghum» – Under the unifying slogan «We have 1001 reasons to invest in sorghum», the Congress promises two days of rich exchanges where innovations, markets and success stories will illustrate the enormous potential of this rapidly expanding sector, with European production on a structural upward trend. In 2024, 2600 ha will be devoted to sorghum seed production, the largest area ever recorded in Europe. This historic figure demonstrates the growing importance of this crop in crop rotation. |
Set course for Budapest – Hungary is set to become one of Europe’s leading sorghum producers by 2024, with nearly 50,000 hectares under cultivation and a very significant increase in area over the past four years (+260%).With one of the most developed sorghum processing industries in Europe, particularly in the animal feed sector, Hungary’s prospects and success stories will be highlighted at the congress in Budapest. |
Key issues for an evolving industry – Varietal innovation is one of the key themes: the challenge for researchers today is to meet climatic challenges, particularly in terms of water stress and pest pressure, not to mention agronomic expectations. The multiple uses of sorghum will also be highlighted: food and feed, bioenergy, etc. The congress will give the floor to innovative project leaders, proving that sorghum is a crop with growing opportunities. |
A multidisciplinary event – Producers, researchers, economists, agronomists, seed producers, climatologists and geneticists from five continents will take part in plenary sessions and workshops. Over 200 delegates are expected to attend, again from all walks of life: farmers, cooperatives, research institutes, scientists… to exchange ideas and create synergies for the future. |
