Tangerines were the most consumed fruit and tomatoes the most preferred vegetable in Istanbul in 2025, according to data from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

The city’s Bayrampaşa and Ataşehir wholesale fruit and vegetable markets sold a total of 86 product varieties last year, including 37 fruits and 49 vegetables.
A total of 2,774,260 tonnes of produce were delivered to the two markets in 2025, up from 2,750,633 tonnes in 2024.
Fruit deliveries declined from 1,030,802 tonnes in 2024 to 957,874 tonnes in 2025, while vegetable deliveries rose from 1,719,831 tonnes to 1,816,386 tonnes over the same period.

In 2024, the most delivered fruits by tonnage were oranges, tangerines, watermelons, apples and lemons.
In 2025, the ranking shifted to tangerines, bananas, watermelons, oranges, and apples.
Last year, the markets received 112,228 tonnes of tangerines, 106,792 tonnes of bananas, 100,517 tonnes of watermelons, 91,068 tonnes of oranges and 83,216 tonnes of apples.

In 2024, the most delivered vegetables by tonnage were tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers and peppers. In 2025, the order changed to tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes and peppers.
Deliveries in 2025 totaled 484,094 tonnes of tomatoes, 187,449 tonnes of cucumbers, 182,489 tonnes of potatoes and 166,169 tonnes of peppers…
