The closing meeting of the “Good Agricultural Practices from Production to Export” project, which covers 100 producers in Seferihisar, Menderes and Selçuk districts of Izmir province, carried out in cooperation with İzmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association (EYMSİB), was held in Seferihisar.

Good Agriculture Certification process was carried out for 17 thousand 260 tonnes of crops on an area of 4 thousand 315 decares in 100 tangerine producers in Menderes, Seferihisar and Selçuk districts.

“We provided trap support for biotech fights”

Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) Deputy Coordinator and Chair of EYMSİB Hayrettin Uçak said that they are aware that the producers are also working with great devotion to produce such a valuable crop for their region without residue.

“Seeing this effort, we are working to contribute as both our Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association. We provided trap support to these producers for their biotechnical struggles. I hope that these 100 valuable producers will set an important example for our other producers and the number of our farmers who produce with Good Agricultural Practices will continue to increase every year,” he said.

“363 million dollars of tangerine exports in January-November: At the end of the year, we will make tangerine the export champion again”

“In 2021, the most exported crop among fresh fruits and vegetables across Türkiye was tangerine. Last year 930 thousand tonnes and 453 million dollars of tangerine exports were realized. As for this year, we have reached 623 thousand tonnes and 363 million dollars of exports in the 11-month period. At the end of the year, with your support, we will make tangerine the export champion again, I hope. In tangerines, we are in the 3rd place after China and Spain with a production of 1.6 million tonnes in the world. Almost 60 percent of our production goes to export. It is a source of pride for all of us that such an important product for our country is being produced in our region,” he added.

Mandarin yield soared by more than 100 percent…

Explaining that the tangerine harvest in the Aegean Region has soared by more than 100 percent this season, Hayrettin Uçak continued as follows:

“We expect 175 thousand tonnes of citrus fruit production in İzmir province this season. I can say that we had a productive season for both our producers and exporters. In fact, tangerine is a very important crop for our Seferihisar, Menderes and Selçuk districts, both for table consumption and other products brought to the industry. Its use in industry is also becoming more and more diversified. In addition to its freshness, it provides significant added value to our region with its chips, jam, fruit juice, cologne and Turkish delight.”
