SILKWORM FARMING REVITALIZED IN ÖDEMİŞ OF İZMİR…

Harvest time in silkworm project of Ödemiş…
Women producers experienced the excitement of harvest…

This time, the excitement of the harvest was experienced in Gölcük, within the framework of the “Revitalization of Silkworm Farming with Women Farmers’ Project”, which was carried out jointly with the İzmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and Ödemiş Municipality.

In the Silk House allocated by the Municipality of Ödemiş, the marathon of silkworm breeding, which continued day and night, has ended with the harvest of wet cocoons.

Later, at the ceremony, which was organized by paying attention to the social distance rule, the importance of women taking part in production was emphasized. Speaking on behalf of 14 women producers who cultivated silkworm for the first time after successfully completing the course under the project “Revitalization of Silkworm Farming with Women Farmers”, Nazmiye Aynalı thanked Mayor of Ödemiş for the support he provided to women producers.

Ödemiş Agriculture and Forestry District Manager İbrahim Altıntaş underlined that the first step was taken to have a say in reproduction with the project, which was realized with the cooperation of İzmir Agriculture and Forestry Directorate and Ödemiş Municipality, which used to have a production of nearly 80 tons in silkworm.

14 Women Heroes…

Reminding that they are realizing the silkworm cultivation with their families, Ödemiş Mayor Mehmet Eriş said that even small children of the women producers sleep in the Silk House. Stating that they do not only support the allocation and equipment as the Ödemiş Municipality, Eriş noted, “We also support the supply and weeding of the mulberry leaf, which is the only nutrient of caterpillars, together with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality teams.

“A new story has been written here. This must have a story. Our 14 women heroes from Gölcük region are real heroes of the production. If our producers are supported and encouraged, so many beautiful things come out. Silk is in our lives. It exists in the identity of the city,” Eriş added.

“In the next stage, there is an economic value as much as silk production, and this turns into a souvenir. Our hardworking women set an example for both our district and our country. I sincerely congratulate our women who contributed to this project. I would like to thank our Izmir Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Directorate for their support,” Eriş concluded…
