Yıldıray Gençer, the Chairperson of the Sub-Union of the Seed Industrialists and Producers, stated that the Turkish seed sector has a strong structure.
“We not only produce our own seeds. We export seeds to over 100 countries. In 2023, we exported 326.8 million dollars against 249.6 million dollars of imports. We are clearly an exporter country,” he said.
Drawing attention to the effects on productivity, Gençer added, “Plant breeding and variety development studies conducted by taking into account the changing climatic conditions in seed production are important for food safety. Resources and support allocated to R&D activities, especially variety development studies, should be increased.”
