RAISIN EXPORTS BRING IN 441 MILLION DOLLARS…

Seedless raisin exports exceeded 250 thousand tonnes…

Türkiye, which is by far the world leader in the production and export of raisins, earned 441 million dollars from seedless raisins in the 2021/22 season with an increase of 3 percent.

Seedless raisin exports, which started the 2021/22 season on September 1, 2021, reached 99 countries and increased by 3 percent to 441 million 862 thousand dollars.

Exporting 252 thousand 354 thousand tonnes of raisins in the period from September 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022, Türkiye achieved a spike of 13 percent on the amount basis compared to the previous season.

Mehmet Ali Işık, Chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, emphasized that Türkiye alone meets 22% of the world’s 1 million 301 thousand tonnes of production with a yield of approximately 290 thousand tonnes in the 2021/22 season.

“Seedless raisin is our top export product in product-based export revenue in the Aegean Region. Our industry generates an average of 450 million dollars in foreign currency inflows every year. This year, we exceeded our export target of 200 thousand tonnes by 25 percent. While we exported raisins to 91 countries in 2020/21, we expanded our export market to 99 countries and regions this season. 33 percent of the world’s exports of seedless raisins are made by our country. Raisin exports, of which 95 percent of our region is realized, reached 441 million dollars with a rise of 3 percent in the 2021/22 season. We exported 345 million dollars to the European continent, which is our main trade partner, with a share of 80 percent,” Işık said.

“We ramped up our seedless raisin exports to the Americas by 26 percent, and increased by over 100 percent to the African continent. With a rise of 25 percent in the Far East and Asian countries, we exported 13 million dollars to Japan with a rise of 15 percent, and 4 million dollars to China with an increase of 99 percent. In the Middle East countries, we recorded 83 percent acceleration,” Işık added.

“When we look at the countries in the first place in our raisin exports; The United Kingdom is our traditional trade partner with 111 million dollars, we increased our exports to Germany, the second country with the highest demand for Turkish seedless raisins with 62 million dollars, we increased our exports by 9 percent, we have 41 million dollars of exports to the Netherlands, 9 percent acceleration with 34 million dollars of exports to Italy we recorded. Our exports to Australia soared by 37 percent and reached 28 million dollars. We left behind a satisfactory season for producers and exporters and we expect a yield of over 300 thousand tonnes in the 2022/23 season. We foresee that we will reach 500 million dollars in the export of seedless raisins in the new season,” Işık concluded…
