DESPITE THE EPIDEMIC TURKISH RAISIN EXPORTS EXCEED 500 MILLION DOLLARS…

Producers of Manisa province who meet 90 percent of Turkey’s exports of raisins, made 245 thousand tonnes of foreign sales to 99 countries and provided 504 million US dollars of foreign exchange in return.

Manisa Commodity Exchange Chairman Sadık Özkasap said that the figure reached despite the coronavirus pandemic was pleasing.

Manisa, where 90 percent of Sultana seedless raisins are produced, contributes to the country’s economy. In so much that 504 million dollars have been obtained in return for the export of 245 thousand tonnes of raisins between September 1, 2019 and August 30, 2020 to 99 countries, especially the European Union countries.

Stating that despite the pandemic production and trade proceed, Manisa Commodity Exchange Chairman Sadık Özkasap noted, “We experience the difficulties because of pandemic both in Turkey and across the world. Nonetheless, production and trade continues. Manisa is a production friendly province. Besides Manisa is the capital of sultana seedless raisins in Turkey.”

“Although 90 percent of production made in Manisa province, 90 percent, 85 percent also sent to exporting by our modern raisin businesses in Manisa. So here is a serious effort, we have experience and knowledge too,” Özkasap added.

“If we look at the figures, we had an export of around 245 thousand tonnes in the year. We provided 504 million dollars, a foreign currency input to our country in return,” Özkasap concluded…
