Turkish people like eating potatoes…
Annual consumption per person is 48 kilograms…
According to a written statement from the Ministry, annually producing 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes are made in Turkey and consumed 48 kilograms of potatoes per person.
Along with the studies carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry since 2005, ten varieties of domestic seeds have been added to the country market. Six out of ten varieties, first domestic and national ones, including “Nahita”, has been transferred to private sector.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli, in his assessment of the subject, emphasized that Turkey has always been in the top 10 in the world in potato production. Pakdemirli said, We are self sufficient of potato production to provide enough domestic market of Turkey, local and national seeds while trying to have an important place in the foreign markets.”
HARVEST OF NATIONAL BRAND “NAHITA” STARTED
“Nahita”, which is a local and national variety in potato, is first harvested in Adana, renowned production center, in Mediterranean region of the country.
Visitors from the Netherlands, France, Germany, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China and India came to examine “Nahita” brand. In this way, the participants from abroad had the chance to compare domestic and national varieties with others.
“Nahita”, which takes its name from the ancient name of Niğde, attracts considerable attention with the feature of being early, suitable for edible consumption and quite efficient as a variety. “Nahita” was introduced to foreign visitors at international level and it will meet with farmers and exporters after the certification process is completed.
