Mehmet Ali Işık: The first ship in dried figs will depart on 25 September

While the share of the European Union in the export markets of dried figs, in which Türkiye is the world leader in production and exports, is decreasing, the share of the American continent and Far Eastern countries is increasing.

While the share of the European Union in our dried fig exports decreased from 52 percent to 39 percent in the last 10 years, the share of the American continent soared from 17 percent to 28 percent. In the same period, the share of Far Eastern countries in our dried fig exports soared from 12 percent to 15 percent.

Speaking at the Advisory General Assembly Meeting held at the Aegean Exporters‘ Associations (EIB), Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, said that Turkish exporters have reduced the dependence of Turkish dried figs on the EU market with their promotional activities and that TURQUALITY and URGE projects, fairs and sectoral trade delegation organisations have a great share in this success.

Giving the export development of dried figs in distant markets with figures, Işık said, “Our exports to India surged from 11 tonnes in 2014 to 341 tonnes at the end of 2023. In the same period, our dried fig exports to Canada surged from 701 tonnes to 2 thousand 476 tonnes, to South Korea from 286 tonnes to 828 tonnes, to China from 2 thousand 70 tonnes to 4 thousand 946 tonnes, to the USA from 7 thousand 817 tonnes to 14 thousand 458 tonnes.”

“We will continue our TURQUALITY and URGE projects to sustain these increases. We will enhance our fairs, sectoral trade delegations and procurement delegations,” Işık added…
