Average export price of dried figs exceeded 6 thousand dollars!

Described as the fruit of paradise, dried figs, one of Türkiye’s prestige products in exports, surged by 37 percent on a dollar basis in the 2024/25 season and the average export price of dried figs exceeded 6 thousand dollars per tonne.

Dried figs, which were exported for an average of 4 thousand 506 dollars in the first 4 months of the 2023/24 season, found buyers for 6 thousand 162 dollars with a 37 percent jump in dollar terms in the 4-month period of the 2024/25 season. Turkish exporters hiked their dried fig exports from 148 million to 194 million dollars with an increase of 31 percent in the 4-month period.

Despite the 15 percent decrease in dried fig yield in the 2024/25 season due to adverse weather conditions as a result of global climate change, the decrease in dried fig exports on quantity basis was limited to 4 percent. In the 2024/25 dried fig season, which started on 25 September 2024, Türkiye exported 31 thousand 425 tonnes of dried figs until 25 January 2025. In the previous season, dried fig exports were 32 thousand 796 tonnes in terms of quantity.

Dried figs go mostly to Europe, America and Far East…

European Union countries had the biggest share in dried fig exports with 12 thousand 801 tonnes worth 87.5 million dollars. While exporting 7 thousand 467 tonnes of dried figs to the American continent, 40 million 170 thousand dollars worth of dried figs were exported.

Mehmet Ali Işık: Our dried fig exports to Far Eastern countries were 3 thousand 396 tonnes worth 20 million 251 thousand dollars.

Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, informed that the World Health Organisation defines dried figs as one of the healthy foods and stated that the demand for dried figs worldwide is increasing every year.

Sharing that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Research Institutes, Universities, Producers, Exporters and Traders are working hard to prevent aflatoxin and ochratoxin contamination that may occur due to unfavourable climatic conditions in dried figs, Işık said, “Dried figs are the livelihood of at least 40,000 families, including our approximately 25,000 producers and our employees, most of whom are women in our enterprises. In this respect, it is the duty of all of us to continue the production and export of dried figs, which have a very important social and economic value for both our Aegean Region and our country, in a sustainable manner.”
