Mandarine accounts for 52 percent of all citrus exports!

Hayrettin Uçak, Chair of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, disclosed that Türkiye gets 5 percent share from tangerine production worldwide.

“In 2023, mandarine was the most exported product in Türkiye’s exports of fresh fruit and vegetable products with an amount of 576 million dollars. In 2023, tangerine exports had a 52 percent share in citrus exports worth 1 billion 112 million dollars. The export of satsuma mandarine, which is the most popular type of tangerine with its thin peel and aroma, was 134 million dollars in 2023. In the 9-month period of 2024, the country’s tangerine exports in the total of all types soared by 3 percent from 228 million to 235 million dollars. By the end of 2024, we aim to reach 600 million dollars in tangerine exports and 150 million dollars in satsuma mandarine exports,” Uçak said.

Satsuma yield in Izmir province 166 thousand tonnes…

Stating that they expect 166 thousand tonnes of satsuma tangerine production in İzmir province this year according to their yield study, Uçak continued as follows; “24 thousand Mediterranean fruit fly traps provided by İzmir Governorship and İzmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture to tangerine producers in Seferihisar, Menderes and Selçuk districts contributed to the reduction of the Mediterranean fruit fly to a great extent this year. It was also a successful season in the fight against other pests. Tangerine quality is suitable for export. Our exporters will make an effort to make it a season in which the producers get the fruits of their labour. I wish it to be a productive season for our producers and exporters.”

Uçak, who also informed that as the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, they carried out a comprehensive study with Ege University to prevent losses in tangerine, added that they determined the causes of losses and that they will organise training activities to prevent losses in the next stage, as a result of which the losses in tangerine production will be minimised.

The first three countries in exports were Russia, Ukraine and Serbia…

The Russian Federation was the leading country in satsuma mandarin exports with 90 million dollars, followed by Ukraine with 24 million and Serbia with 3.5 million dollars. Türkiye exported satsuma mandarin to 47 countries in 2023…
