MAIZE HARVEST STARTS IN ADANA REGION…

Harvesting of maize, which was cultivated in February in Kozan district of Adana province, started.

Harvesting of maize, one of the most important products of agriculture, has begun in the fertile lands of the Çukurova region.

It is expected that 125 thousand tons of maize will be collected from an area of approximately 100 thousand decares. Stating that they expect a yield of 1000 to 1700 kilograms per decare, the Chairman of Kozan Commodity Exchange, İdris Çevikalp, warned the farmers not to mow with moisture.

Noting that he announced the purchase price of maize as 1325 TL, Çevikalp said, “Also, the state supports 60 TL per tonne, but it would be better for our farmers if the base price was a little higher.”

Farmer Yunus Açıkgöz, on the other hand, said, “We started the harvest of our maize. I irrigated the field with drip. The base price came below what we expected. It is purchased as 1275 TL in the free market. This season was very hot, we expect 1500 kilograms per decare.”

Ali Ateş, who has been doing harvester work in the field for 30 years, added, “The yield is normal, it is close to what we expect. Our input is too much, we were reaping 25 liras last year, 35 liras this year. I ask the combine harvester friends to have a fire tube”.
