Kemal Kaçmaz: Türkiye exported 1.6 million tonnes of citrus in 2024

Türkiye exported 1 million 639 thousand tonnes of citrus products to different countries in 2024.

Citrus exports from the country last year totalled 1 billion 46 million 128 thousand dollars.

According to information compiled from the data of the Mediterranean Exporters’ Associations (AKİB), 1 million 639 thousand tonnes of citrus products were sent from Türkiye to different countries in 2024. Foreign currency inflow of 1 billion 46 million 128 thousand dollars was provided to the country through exports.

The most exported product was tangerine and the country was Russia. Kemal Kaçmaz, Vice President of the National Citrus Council, said that citrus had a 43 percent share in fresh fruit and vegetable exports last year. “Citrus is no longer a sub-unit and has become the main sector,” he said.

The products sent abroad the most were tangerine, lemon, orange and grapefruit, respectively. In the distribution of exports by countries, Russia ranked first with 375 million dollars of exports. Citrus exports worth 197 million dollars were made to Iraq, 108 million dollars to Ukraine, 49 million dollars to Romania and 48 million dollars to Poland.

Kemal Kaçmaz also stated that citrus produced in Türkiye stands out with its taste and aroma and is preferred in many countries.

Emphasising the importance of citrus in the fresh fruit and vegetable sector, whose exports reached 3 billion 401 million dollars last year, Kaçmaz added, “Last year, citrus had a 43 percent share in fresh fruit and vegetable exports. The high quality of our products, the advantage of geographical location and sustainable agricultural practices lead the citrus sector to success.”
