İLKER TOLGA MENGİ: COMMERCIAL CRISIS CREATES NEW OPPORTUNITIES IN US MARKET

“The commercial crisis has created opportunities in the US market”

Istanbul Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association Board Member Ilker Tolga Mengi said: “The US is the world’s largest apple juice concentrate market, 35-40 percent of the world-produced apple juice concentrate is consumed in this country.”

Stating that Turkey has been competing with many European countries, including China and Poland and also South America in terms of apple juice concentrate production, Mengi continued as follows:

“The reason of the increase of Turkey’s share in the US market last year based on trade wars. Levying a tax of 10 percent on Chinese products including fruit juice concentrate by US in the second half and to increase it to 25 percent in early 2019 has generated a big opportunity in US market for Turkish manufacturers. Thus Turkish fruit and vegetable juice concentrate producers who made good use of this opportunity, expanded their production and trade volume and increased their share in the American market.”

Mengi noted that the US policy against China is expected to continue this year, “If a development that disrupts the current competitive advantage in Turkish-American relations is not allowed, Turkish producers will have the opportunity to maintain and even increase their market share in the United States” he added…
