Ilgın Hasırcıoğlu: Frozen bread reduces waste!

According to data from the Turkish Food Employers’ Association (TÜGİS), approximately 12 million loaves of bread are wasted every day in Türkiye.

Half of this waste occurs in homes, while the other half occurs at out-of-home consumption points such as restaurants, hotels, canteens and dining halls. This wastage, caused by overproduction and unnecessary purchases, leads to food waste as well as economic losses. Frozen bread solution stands out as one of the ways to reduce this situation.

FROZEN BREAD PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE…

In a statement made on the occasion of World Bread Day October 16, Donuk Bakery Products (DFU) emphasised that frozen breads play an important role in preventing waste. Ilgın Hasırcıoğlu, General Manager of DFU, stated that consuming frozen breads by thawing and cooking when necessary both provides freshness and prevents excess bread intake and that this method offers a new generation alternative in preventing waste.

Hasırcıoğlu also higlighted that bread wastage in Türkiye not only causes food loss, but also a major damage to the economy.
