Ibrahim Yumaklı, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that, thanks to the bountiful rainfall this year, they expect a wheat harvest of 24.5 million tonnes and a barley harvest of 10 million tonnes, adding, “These figures represent a 44 percent spike compared to last year.”
Speaking at the opening of the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Eurasia Conference held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, Yumaklı said that relations between Türkiye and Uzbekistan had reached the level of a strategic partnership.
Recalling that the trade volume between the two countries stood at around 1 billion dollars 10 years ago, Yumaklı explained, “Today, this figure has tripled, exceeding 3 billion dollars. I believe we will reach the 5 billion dollar trade target in the near future.”
Drawing attention to the impact of climate change on agricultural production, Yumaklı noted, “As Türkiye, we have experienced this very closely in recent seasons. Last year, our cereal production suffered a significant decline due to drought and agricultural frost. This year, however, thanks to bountiful rainfall, we are expecting a new production record of 24.5 million tonnes of wheat and 10 million tonnes of barley. These figures represent a 44 percent spike compared to last year. This significant difference between the two production seasons clearly demonstrates just how severe and unpredictable the impact of the climate on agriculture can be.”
