HONEY PRODUCTION DECREASES IN MERSİN PROVINCE DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE…

Mersin Beekeepers’ Association Chairman Adem Kurt stated that seasonal temperatures experienced much over as usual this season across Turkey.

Kurt said, “Nevertheless this abnormal seasonal temperatures have had negative effects on beekeeping activities.”

Kurt also emphasized that the rise in temperature causes worse results than anticipated, reducing the number of bees and warned that this decrease may increase even more in the coming years.

“There is a big decrease in the breeding amount of queen bees in the region due to annual rainfall and unconscious grazing,” added Kurt.

Pointing out that global warming has greatly boosted its impact on the beekeeping industry every year, Kurt noted, “Especially this year, bees have been negatively affected by the temperatures. What else is compared to last year, we experienced a harvest loss of 70 to 80 percent in honey production across Mersin province.”
