Exporters asked, TARSİM hiked the insurance price of tangerine from 7.5 TL to 12.5 TL per kilogram…

Preparations for the 2024/25 season continue in tangerine, which is the leading product of exports among fresh fruit and vegetable products with an export amount of 576 million dollars in 2023.

Exporters, who started the preparations for the new season by making contracts with the producers, requested to raise the product insurance fees to Agricultural Insurance Pool Management Inc. due to the low product price in agricultural insurance, which secures the products in tangerine gardens against damages that may occur in disasters such as frost, hail, etc.

Hayrettin Uçak, Head of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, stated that the insurance amount of satsuma mandarin is 7.5 TL per kilogram and this amount is far behind the current product prices and noted that the insurance amount of satsuma mandarin was increased to 12.5 TL after their demands, and improvements were also made in the insurance amounts of other citrus products orange, lemon and grapefruit.

Emphasising that the effects of climate change are increasing day by day, Uçak said; “In this sense, we would like to thank our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and TARSİM General Directorate on behalf of our producers and exporters for quickly implementing our application for increasing the insurance amounts in tangerines, where we are the third in the world with an annual production of 1.8 million tonnes.”
