“GREENHOUSE OIZ SHOULD BE INTEGRATED WITH GEOTHERMAL RESOURCES”

Press release…

The Medium Term Economic Programme (MTP), which covers the years 2024-2026 and entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette dated 6 September 2023, includes targets to ramp up the agricultural production of Türkiye, which has the fourth richest geothermal resources in the world.

Accordingly, in order to ensure the continuity of supply of fresh fruit and vegetable products, investments for the establishment of Greenhouse Organised Agricultural Zone (GIZ) in suitable areas where geothermal energy resources are located will be accelerated and the establishment of new greenhouses and greenhouse renovation investments will be supported.

“WE ARE VERY HAPPY THAT IT IS INCLUDED IN THE OVP”

Evaluating the targets in the MTP, Ali Kındap, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Geothermal Energy Association (JED), stated that Türkiye needs a production revolution in agriculture and said, “One of the areas where the highest added value is created in the integrated use of geothermal energy is geothermal greenhouses. We are extremely happy that geothermal greenhouse applications, which we have been expressing to the public and public authorities for many years and showing examples in agricultural exporter countries, will increase in our country and that this target is included in the public policy set.”

Ali Kındap also reminded that the MTP also emphasised the continuation of drilling activities for the exploration of geothermal resources with high potential and bringing new resources into the economy and pointed out that the Organised Industrial Zones Based on Agriculture, the number of legal entities of which has reached 41, must be integrated with geothermal resources.

“WE CAN REACH 100 THOUSAND ACRES IN 10 YEARS”

Kındap indicated that 5 thousand 293 decares of geothermal greenhouses are currently producing across Türkiye and emphasized that they believe that the country can easily reach 100 thousand decares of geothermal greenhouses within 10 years.

PRODUCTION IN GEOTHERMAL GREENHOUSES REACHES 5 THOUSAND 293 DECARES IN TURKIYE…

In Türkiye, the country with the 4th highest geothermal resource richness in the world, geothermal greenhouse cultivation is currently carried out in 5 thousand 293 decares of land.
Afyonkarahisar province ranks first with 900 decares, İzmir ranks second with 819 decares and Manisa ranks third with 756 decares.

Agriculture Based Industrial Zones (TDİOSBs) established in İzmir-Dikili (3 thousand decares), Denizli Sarayköy (700 decares) and Ağrı-Diyadin (1.3 thousand decares) will be heated with geothermal resources.

The TDİOSB to be heated with geothermal resources, which is being established in Gönen district of Balıkesir, will be the largest in the world with its 8 thousand decares. This project, which will cost 10 billion TL, will provide employment for 10 thousand people.
