Giresun Nettle, which is identified with Turkiye’s Black Sea province Giresun and known as a source of healing, was published in the bulletin of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office dated 01.04.2022 and numbered 2022/122, as a result of the efforts of the Giresun Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and registered with the number 1052 and received a Geographical Indication.

Regarding the issue, Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Director Dr. Muhammet Angın gave the following information:
“Giresun Nettle is a perennial plant that grows in Giresun province and its Latin name is Urtica diocia L. The leaves are dark green, petiolate, toothed and burning hairy. Its flowers are small green in colour. At the geographical border, the pH of the soil is 5-7, the annual average rainfall is 1500 mm and the average humidity is 80%, making Giresun Nettle rich in myricetin and naringin.”

Dr. Angın said, “Giresun nettle also has many health benefits. It contains high antioxidants. It is known among the people that it is good for allergic diseases, relieves arthritis and joint pain and contributes to bone health.”

“In the production of Giresun Nettle, which is also cultivated, seeds obtained from the previous period are used. It is consumed lovingly by the local people by making soup and oily vaccine dishes and it is also drunk as tea. It is also used in fibre production,” he added…
