After Milas olive oil, which adds value to Turkish cuisine with its superior quality and taste, was registered with a geographical indication in the European Union (EU), the application for Milas Çekişke olives is also nearing completion…

Muğla…
Olives and olive oil, whose history in Türkiye’s southwestern province of Muğla dates back 2,800 years and are believed to be a source of healing, continue to be indispensable on tables.
Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairperson Reşit Özer told an Anatolian Agency (AA) reporter that, thanks to their efforts, Milas olive oil was registered and protected by the EU Commission on December 23, 2020.
Özer stated that they have been working to create a brand value for the district’s olives and olive oil since the moment he took office, saying, “With the geographical indication registration of Milas Memecik olive oil in the European Union in 2020, the first and only one in Türkiye, a movement started in Milas. The number of factories and brands surged and new facilities began to be established.”
“It has become a sought-after product both domestically and internationally”
Özer, noting the spike in the number of brands and quality products in Muğla’s district of Milas over the last five years, emphasized that there are currently 105 branded olive oils in the district.

Explaining that olive and olive oil producers have become more aware, Özer said, “We have 80 factories in the district and 10 modern facilities have been established in the last five years. These make a very important contribution to the Milas economy and to Milas itself. Because of this, our companies have won special awards and medals in the USA, Canada, Spain and Italy. Thanks to this, Milas has become a sought-after brand.”
“This year, very serious brands that export have emerged. Our most important advice to our farmers is to produce early harvest and cold-pressed products. Produce high-quality products and now store our products in dark-colored bottles in cool places,” he added.
“As the quality and brand value of olives and olive oil produced in the region surged, it became a sought-after product both domestically and internationally,” he concluded…
