FAO at the 2026 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31)…

Press release…

November, 2026…

Antalya – Türkiye…

The 2026 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31), hosted by Türkiye in Antalya, will bring together world leaders, experts and organizations to advance implementation of the Paris Agreement and accelerate global climate action.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will participate in COP31 to highlight the central role of agriculture and food systems, including fisheries and aquaculture, in turning climate commitments into action. FAO supports efforts to strengthen resilience, improve food security, and reduce emissions. At the heart of FAO’s work are farmers, now dealing with greater volatility, exacerbated by El Nino and Extreme heat.

At COP31, FAO will work with countries and partners to keep agriculture and food security at the center of discussions on nationally determined contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), climate finance and a just transition.

FAO also recognizes South-South and Triangular Cooperation as a key mechanism to turn climate priorities into action, supporting countries to share expertise and adapt proven farming solutions from the Global South. A strong example is the joint FAO-UN Office for South-South Cooperation project, accelerating farmers’ adoption of climate-resilient agriculture practices in Central Asia.

FAO is supporting the COP31 Presidency’s Action Agenda, including the Turquoise Nexus Initiative (TNI), a flagship programme of FAO’s Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) Partnership. The Initiative will be led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye under the coordination of the COP31 Presidency.

FAO will co-host the Food and Agriculture Pavilion with CGIAR for the fifth consecutive year.
