ÖMER FETHİ GÜRER: AGRICULTURAL CENSUS SHOULD BE MADE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer said that the agricultural census, which guides agricultural policies, has been forgotten for 20 years. Gürer said, “There has been no agricultural census for more than 20 years. Under normal circumstances, at least two agricultural censuses should have been made, once in 2011 and 2020. However, unfortunately, the agricultural census, which is very important for the future of agriculture in our country, was not carried out during the the ruling party AKP governments.”

Stating that the agricultural census, which was carried out every ten years in the past for the purpose of establishing agricultural policies, has not been carried out since 2001, Gürer explained, “In the agricultural censuses, numerical data about agricultural enterprises, the efficient use of lands in the light of these data, information about the products obtained from the cultivated lands, the expenditures made for irrigated and fertilized lands and irrigation and fertilization, the comparison of costs with previous years, the history of the cultivated lands and the products obtained.”

“Furthermore what kind of agricultural policy would be followed in the next period were revealed in these agricultural censuses.The numerical data on animal existence in our country, the information on human, machine and animal power used in agricultural products and their increase and decrease rates over the years were also revealed as statistical data. Thus, a healthy policy in agriculture had been able to be formed,” he added…
