Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association’s “Sustainable Management of Dried Figs with Aflatoxin Project” was deemed worthy of the award in the competition where eight countries, including the USA, Spain, Austria and China, were nominated. In addition to contributing to the prestige of Turkish dried figs, the award will also contribute to its recognition as a sustainability and quality-oriented success story on a global scale.
Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association returned from the 42nd International Dried and Unshelled’ Fruits Congress (INC) held in Spain with a meaningful award. The ‘Sustainable Management of Dried Figs with Aflatoxin Project’ developed by the Association within the framework of food safety studies was deemed worthy of the ‘Sustainability Award’ at the congress in Palma de Mallorca. The holistic approach put forward by Turkey with the project was evaluated as a ‘model on a global scale’ by INC.
Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that Türkiye is by far the leader in world dried fig production and exports. Işık, who is also the Sustainability and Organic Products Coordinator of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations, emphasised that Türkiye accounts for more than 60 percent of the world’s dried fig production and exports.
