EXPORTERS MOBILIZE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF DRIED FIGS…

Exporters mobilized to improve the quality of dried figs…

Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association has mobilized to increase the quality, yield and food safety of dried figs, regarded as the fruit of Eden, in which Turkey is the world leader both production and exports.

Figs to be dried in drying trays…

In order to prevent the formation of aflatoxins and ochratoxins in dried figs, to increase the quality of dried figs, to dry it quickly and healthily, to prevent dried figs from getting wet in the event of rain during drying yard phase, exporters made plastic drying pans / drying trays and handed them out to producers.

Birol Celep, Chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association, said, “In 2020, we made 22 thousand drying trays and brought them together with producers. Aydın Commodity Exchange and Nazilli Commodity Exchange supported our project with a thousand drying trays each. We handed all these drying trays free of charge to the producers in identified villages with the cooperation and support of Aydın and İzmir Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry. We would like to thank our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for their support.”

Aflatoxin figs have been annihilated for 20 years…

Explaining that the Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association has been successfully continuing the “Annihilation of Dried Figs with Aflatoxin Project” since 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Trade, Celep noted, “Figs extracted under aflatoxin controls in enterprises are annihilated in facilities approved by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. We have been collecting and removing an average of 500,000 kgs of dried figs for 20 years in order not to harm human health.”

“On the other hand, we reach producers through information brochures, social media posts and SMS throughout the dried fig season. We allocated a budget of 1 million 60 thousand TL in 2020 for these works,” Celep added…
