Export target of 900 million dollars in citrus…
Indispensable in the winter months and vitamin C store citrus products yield in the Aegean Region in 2019/20 season is estimated to be 442 thousand 349 tons.
Expressing that the product quality is good enough, Chairman of Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association Hayrettin Uçak stated that they set a target of 900 million dollars.
Orange in the first rank…
Orange yield is estimated at 264 thousand 468 tons, while tangerine yield is estimated at 121 thousand 918 tons. Lemon yield is expected to be 50 thousand 824 tons, 4 thousand 571 tons of grapefruit harvest expected.
Hayrettin Uçak pointed out that the citrus harvest of the Aegean Region reached a historical level of 688 thousand tons in 2018/19 season.
He noted that the citrus yield of this season exceeded the yield of 428 thousand tons in 2017/18 season and that the products were of high quality so there will not exist any problem.
Attention to the Mediterranean fruit fly…
Underlining that very favourable conditions have been formed for the Mediterranean fruit fly this season, Uçak has warned producers to be more cautious. “Last year during the harvest and full-bloom during this season, rainfall caused trees fatigue. Fruit development is a 10-15 day delay. This year we estimate 15 days late harvest” he added.
Uçak also explained: “Turkey ranks ninth in orange production, mandarin third in the world in production, while the lemon ranks the sixth and seventh in grapefruit production. Turkey’s revenue of foreign exchange from citrus products in 2018 is 738 million dollars. I do believe that we’ll catch the target of 900 million dollars this year.”
Tangerine became the export leader…
In 2018, Turkey has the most foreign currency income from tangerines among citrus products. Tangerine exports amounted to 286 million dollars, while lemon exports amounted to 280 million dollars. Oranges, Turkey 101 million dollars while gaining currency, grapefruit exports was recorded of 70 million dollars.
Russia, Iraq and Ukraine top three…
Turkey exports citrus products to Russia amount of 268 million dollars. Iraq chose 94 million dollars of Turkish citrus products. Ukraine became the third country with 79 million dollars. These countries; Romania, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, Poland, Serbia, Czech Republic and Azerbaijan followed. Turkey has exported citrus products to 75 countries.
