The UK and Türkiye announced that they will start negotiations for a new Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Ben Aldred, Deputy Undersecretary for Trade at the British Consulate General, Ilaria Regondi, Chief Negotiator for the Türkiye-UK Free Trade Agreement, and Harriet Ackland, Policy and Strategy Leader for the Türkiye-UK Free Trade Agreement, visited Aegean exporters to exchange views before the negotiations that will start in the coming period in order to update and expand the scope of the Free Trade Agreement.

M. Emre Uygun, Chair of the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association (EZZİB), said that they have ramped up their exports of agricultural products by 4 percent in the last 1-year period to 7.4 billion dollars.
“Considering that negotiations are ongoing within the scope of the FTA between the United Kingdom and our country, the zeroing of customs duty on olive oil exports from Türkiye to the United Kingdom will enable our country to gain an important share in the United Kingdom market, which meets almost all its needs from EU countries such as Spain and Italy and imports an average of 70 thousand tonnes of olive oil annually,” he said.
“We carry out our trade to the United Kingdom through third countries such as Spain and Italy, but we want to trade directly. The UK market is a target market for the Turkish olive and olive oil sector. We need to be facilitated in order to catch price competition. We have expressed these demands in bilateral contacts,” he added…
