Although it came late, the precipitation that reached the average of ordinary years made the grain producers smile. The performance of the 2023-2024 season, in which the all-time record was broken, is expected to be experienced in this season as well. Especially wheat production is expected to exceed 20 million tonnes this year.
Türkiye’s current situation and future projections in cereals were discussed at the ‘International Cereals in Türkiye and the World Towards the 2024 Harvest’ conference organised for the 9th time this year by the Cereal Suppliers Association (HUBUDER).
Speaking at the opening session of the meeting, Ahmet Güldal, General Manager of the Turkish Grain Board (TMO), stated that rainfall has been good so far, especially in the Central Anatolia Region and that this year is expected to catch last year’s production level.
Stating that the work on the price continues, Güldal said, “As the financing costs increase, we have to reflect this to the prices.”
“This year’s purchase by appointment will continue until the end of the year, we are making preparations to receive all incoming products by the way,” Güldal added.
“We exported unusually last year”
Pointing out that there has been a spike in cultivation areas due to the policies pursued in recent years, Güldal noted, “There has been a fertile season for the last two years. I would like to underline that production close to last year is expected worldwide. Until 15 days ago, there was a risk of drought for us, but this was alleviated with partial rainfall.”
Reminding that unusual decisions were made during the bumper season last year, Güldal concluded, “Raw material exports were started for the first time and that a total of over 1.6 million tonnes of wheat was exported together with the private sector and 1.3 billion dollars of foreign currency income was obtained from the sale of these crops.”
